Every year, for the past decade, NCTI has sponsored the Lonesome Dove Cookers BBQ Tent at the Houston Rodeo World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest. The BBQ Cook-off is a great event where private tents all gather for three days in the NRG parking lot. Each tent has its own food, drinks, and entertainment. However, there is also public entertainment and food to be purchased outside of the tents. Over 250 of these tents compete in the actual Cook-Off Contest.
To say the 2023 Event was a success would be a big understatement! While the Lonesome Dove Cookers always have superb food, in 2023 they took home first place in one of the four main categories. The four main categories are Ribs, Chicken, Brisket, and Open Contest. Lonesome Dove won the Open Contest with their Turf and Surf plate. The Open Contest is where each team can submit any dish of their liking to compete against all the other tents. Lonesome Dove Cookers were also finalists in the Brisket group.
